Wemmick has a fairly comfortable life but is not a rich man so is always looking for a way to make money. Wemmick displays characteristics of both Joe and Mr Jaggers. Pip almost thinks that the two Wemmicks must be a pair of identical twins. At home (which is in the form of a miniature castle), he is kind, caring and fun-loving. At work, he is professional, business-like and can be quite a bully. ![]() Later, Wemmick is able to help Pip when he is planning Magwitch's escape from England. When Pip first arrives in London, Wemmick takes Pip to Newgate prison which gives him a taste of the poor conditions in which prisoners lived. ![]() He organises Jaggers' work schedule and collects the money he is owed in fees. John Wemmick is Mr Jaggers' chief clerk and therefore knows a lot about the law. ![]()
